My Christmas Wish

Ok. So Daniel did not ask for a giant, blue bunny to ride on But, his mommy chose this funny fella from the local baby consignment store as Daniel's one toy from mom and dad this Christmas. She said she couldn't resist the blue, bug-eyed creature after watching Daniel gravitate towards the beast while in the store, give it a good bounce, and then proceed to suck on the poor thing's ears.

And he loves him.

Merry Christmas, Daniel!

Christmas Day

My great grandmother, Donnie, let me open her Christmas gift.

And then she gave me my very own present, this cool, twirling thing.
I also got a swing for the tree in my front yard.
Oh, spring. Won't you get here soon?

Family Photo: Megs, Travis and Titan (Right to left).

Yeah! Christmas Dinner. Marmee made cheesy bruschetta! Yum!

My mom, dad and me on Christmas.

Back to grandpa Tiger's house the day after Christmas for another "walk."
This time I chose to take the easy road.

Christmas Morning

Christmas Eve

My first snowsuit. And my first dip in the snow.

Auntie Megs takes her turn carrying me on our winter walk. Thanks for the hat, Auntie Amber!

Show me some speed. Really, just push this thing down the hill. I'll be fine.

Grandpa Tiger, what's this silly hat all about? Why don't we swap caps?

Mommy, I'll just check out this present that you got, ok?

A Child is Born

Merry Christmas!

The Christmas story brings new joy and meaning to JJ and I this year as we look at our son, 8 months old, and think how Jesus, too, was once a vulnerable, little baby, probably also with wonderful rolls on his legs, wrists and ankles!

Rock'n Around the Christmas Tree!

Last night was the annual JJGames Christmas Party. Fun was had by all as they rocked out with the Beatles, took on a bobsledding challenge and competed for the best slalom downhill skiing time.

Daniel didn't achieve any high scores for his drumming with the Rock Band, nor did he win any prizes for his guitar skills. But he sure looked the part.

This morning, after a good nights sleep, Daniel was still rock'n the new hairstyle. Our son is the only one in the house with styling gel.

Big and Strong

Daniel,

You are nearing 8 months old and you are bigger and stronger each day. You want to walk. I can see it in your eyes as you watch other kids in motion pass you by. You are mobile, however. You have mastered the "scoot" from one end of the room to the other. Your daddy and I are putting money on you walking before you crawl.

You also like an adventure, exploring new places and obstacles. Why just the other day I left you to your play in the living room while I was in the office, and when I came around the corner to check on you, there you were under a chair.

You continue to attempt to pull yourself up on the table or your big cube that has beads to twirl or doors to open on every side. You can stand on the couch by yourself for long periods of time without assistance and like our previous posts have said, you can open and close drawers and switch on and off the lights like a pro.

We are so proud of you, sweetheart. We love you so much and pray that you will continue to grow healthy, continue to find joy in the little things, and continue being happy, little you.

Love,
Mommy

Daniel's Favorite Things: 8 Months

We've tried to write a post every several months with a list of some of Daniel's favorite things to do. It's been a while since our last "favorite's list" and he's learned tons of new skills and games.

Eating Cheerios on His Own

Almost every morning now for breakfast Daniel will sit in his chair and eat some Cheerios. He is getting very good at it.

When he first was learning he would grab them with his whole fist, then transfer it back and forth between hands while he tried to get it in just the right place so he could put it in his mouth. Now he grabs them with two fingers and puts them right in. He even tries to show off some times with the "no look grab" (he usually misses).

Playing the Drum

Daniel has a little drum toy that either makes drumming sounds, sings the alphabet, or counts to ten when he hits the top. He loves banging on the drum and Mom and Dad are definitely getting sick of the voice.

Playing with any Toy

Daniel LOVES playing. He will sit by himself for 30 minutes easily and just play with stuff in front of him. His giraffe is a favorite because it is so tall and will fall over when he starts playing with it. If he does get bored playing in one spot his next favorite thing helps out.

Scooting across the floor
The entire upstairs at our new house is hard wood floors. Daniel hasn't learned to crawl, but he can swing his arms hard and lean forward enough to scoot across the floor while he is sitting up. He's scooted down the hall way to grab laundry from a basket, scooted to the kitchen table to play with chairs, and scooted through the kitchen to play with pots.

Playing with drawers

As our previous video showed, Daniel has learned that fun stuff is inside drawers. Luckily some of the drawers and cabinets in the house came with safety latches so all the chemicals are inside those. Every draw he can open has fun things that make loud sounds or are fun to put inside his mouth.

Bite Daddy's Neck Game
Unfortunately we don't have a picture of this, but Daniel really has fun with this new game. JJ will hold Daniel so he is standing on JJ's lap facing away. Daniel will turn his head, open his mouth really wide, and lean back towards Dad. JJ will lean forward and start kissing and blowing on Daniel's exposed neck and Daniel will laugh and laugh. Then he closes his mouth and faces forward again for about five seconds and will open his mouth and lean back to try and repeat the process again. Its really funny to see.

Daniel Opening Drawers

We took this video about a month ago but we forgot we had it. While playing in the bathroom with Mom and Dad, Daniel played with some toys. Then he got distracted by some shiny knobs on the bathroom drawers.

To his pleasant surprise, the knobs weren't just shiny but they did stuff when you pulled them. Here's a video of Daniel's new found skill.

For the grandparents who will be calling us shortly, there is nothing dangerous in those drawers. Just fun, safe stuff to entertain him.

My First Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving I am grateful for my wonderful family in the East and the West. I am thankful for the trees, my toys, bath time, cereal puffs, and pie, glorious pie!

Auntie Megs, Uncle Travi, Marmee, Me, Donnie, Dad, Mom and Auntie G! Oh, yeah. My doggie friends Sadie and Fritz are there, too!

I can always count on Uncle Trav to join me in an afternoon of footie pajamas!

I love when Auntie G sings with me and swings with me.

My first hike in the backpack. What a trip!

I loved the whole Thanksgiving meal, especially the pie. Mmmmmm! Look at that pie on Uncle Travi's plate.

Another Memorable Trip to Nanna's

Daniel had a great time visiting his Nanna (Great Grandma) in Connecticut last weekend. It was a blessing to be able to see his Grammie, Grandpa, CB, "Auntie Joyce," and the rest of the gang, too.

He was also grateful for his first taste of Italian pastry and a meatball!

Daniel's second cousin, Angela, skipped her meal so that she could jump around the table playing with Daniel and his toys. Sorry, mom!

Breakfast with Grandpa Warren. Hey! Are those pancakes over there?

Have I mentioned that Daniel loves the bath?

Daniel gravitated towards CB this trip. Or, was it the remote he let him play with? :)

Daniel loved his trip to the orchard. And not just because Nanna gave him butter cookies.

Mmmmmmmm! Butter cookie!!!

A happy boy wherever he travels. Can't wait to see everyone again soon.

My First Snow

I'm told it's not winter yet.

Then, what's up with all these cold, white flakes?
